Miramar Farms was founded by Jayne and Mark Battey in 2012 as a place for leaders to reconnect—with themselves, with one another, and with the natural world. Drawing on their shared background in business, public service, and environmental stewardship, they envisioned a space where thoughtful work could unfold in a setting designed to inspire clarity, courage, and collaboration.
Today, the venue is cared for by a small, dedicated team who believe in the power of intentional gathering. Together, we create an experience that is equal parts grounded and expansive—where every detail, from the garden path to the meeting agenda, supports our guests in doing their most meaningful work.
“Not finance. Not strategy. Not technology. It is teamwork that remains the ultimate competitive advantage, both because it is so powerful and so rare.”
In addition to her work with Miramar Farms, Jayne was appointed to the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board by the Governor. She is also a senior fellow of American Leadership Forum and board emeritus. Jayne received her Masters of Science degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science and her bachelor’s degree from Boston College.
She is certified in the Everything DiSC® and Five Behaviors® leadership curriculum and is currently developing a somatic practice to support our efforts to reconnect people with themselves, each other, and nature.
Mark also complements his work at Miramar Farms with board service. He was appointed by the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors to serve on the San Mateo County Pension Board. In addition, he served on the board of MidPen Housing, the largest affordable housing developer in our region, for over 20 years. Mark has an MBA from Stanford University, an MSC in International Relations from the London School of Economics, and a BA from Harvard University.
Over the past decade, Mark has become an avid landscape artist and builder. His creations at Miramar Farms provide special places for connection, reflection, and a moment of awe.
From orchestrating the bid for Super Bowl 50 to expanding ReadyCycle’s sustainable packaging, Heidi’s professional journey has been anything but conventional. Each pivot has brought her closer to Miramar Farms, where she now channels her diverse background into crafting high-impact, seamless experiences.
Raised on a horse ranch in Woodside and educated in Public Relations at St. Mary’s College, Heidi serves as Director of Operations, bringing a clear focus on strategic event execution to her work. Her past work managing major corporate sporting events and marketing for local organic farmers has shaped a unique ability to blend precision, creativity, and a deep-rooted love of the land.
Sarah has been a part of Miramar Farms since 2020, when she first joined us as a summer intern. After completing her BS degree in environmental sciences at UC Davis, Sarah’s work took her to alpine meadows to conduct avian surveys. She also assisted with soil health studies and orchestrated plant physiology research.
While Heather joined the team at Miramar Farms in early 2025, she has been part of our family and community for over 30 years. After a long and successful career in both private and public education, she reached out and took a leap of faith to join Miramar Farms as our baker and hospitality assistant.
Heather brings delicious and attentive baking skills to our little kitchen and puts her teacher credentials to work in helping to design and deliver our wonderful maker workshops.
